Medical Laboratory & Biology Analysis
Medical Biology 3 years (6 semesters) 180 credits
Train laboratory technicians in biochemistry, microbiology, haematology, immunology and quality management (ISO 15189).
Program Overview
This programme trains qualified professionals capable of detecting, through laboratory examinations, the various pathologies that can affect the human body.
Learning Objectives
To train laboratory technicians capable of performing biological analyses on various human samples, interpreting results and contributing to pathology diagnosis.
Key Competencies
- Receive and check biological samples and record identifying data (date, time, patient details)
- Prepare analysers, reagents and biological samples (fractionation, distribution by analysis type)
- Process samples (centrifugation, dilution, heating), monitor analysis progress and record data
- Compare results against reference values and produce analysis reports
- Monitor consumable stock levels and place replenishment orders
- Check analyser performance and update the maintenance log
- Disinfect, decontaminate and tidy the workstation and equipment
- Dispose of and destroy waste in accordance with procedures
- Perform biological analyses on blood, secretion, tissue, urine and stool samples
- Carry out analyses in anatomo-cytopathology, bacteriology, biochemistry, parasitology, haematology, immunology/serology and virology
- Verify conditions for performing a biological sample collection and inform the patient
- Take blood samples and monitor patient reactions
- Manage the stock of labile blood products and supply care units
- Lead training activities within the organisation
